Methods

"Am incredibly sore from yesterdays physio but they have found I have two trapped nerves rather than one which explains having two areas of severe ouchness, though one of them now aches more than it did due to the manipulation by the physio but I can stand up straighter, though still can't stand up for long. The boy went and purchased me some muslin and some bondaweb so I can play more though. Going to be taking part in a Swap on my online group for making a needlecase, just waiting for the guidelines to get posted up and will get started. Dreamed about CQing last night - which is a little worrying.Dreamt I went on an ultimate shopping spree for the fabric for my perfect quilt. I worry about me sometimes.

I finished my first block last night after getting back from physio...mainly because I couldn't move, and had sent fella on a trip to the pub so he could have some relax time. Its kind of rectanglular than square/block shaped, though I suppose you can make them any shape you like.Shall have to find a way to post pictures of it.I used the piece together, pin and then sew method for the first one, but I've had two other methods suggested to me which are one using fusible interfacing and the other being the "flip and stitch" method.

The idea with the first method - Fusible Interfacing - is taking your fabric piece, folding over the seam allowance and ironing it, then using the fusible interfacing as the method to fix it to the base fabric, and doing that with all the pieces. You then stitch them all to the base fabric before getting on with the fun embellishing bit. Shall try this when I can get access to the iron without endangering myself in any way!

The second method - Flip and Stitch - is where you take your base fabric, then your first piece has an odd number of sides - 5 seems to be the convention. You place the next triangle of fabric face down aligning one edge with the first piece. Sew along this edge, through both pieces of fabric and the base fabric. Iron it open, so you have an original piece with another attached. Carry on like this till you have your whole base fabric covered.

Shall try both of them out and see which method works best for me and post the results. "
